Channel Assignment and Inversion

Just a couple of words on this. If you are used to Radiomaster, Flysky or Futaba then be aware that Spektrum’s default channel assignment differs.

The other three brands use Airplane Ailerons, Elevators, Throttle and Rudder on Channels 1,2,3,4 respectively. In sailing we use Ailerons as the boat rudder channel. We use Throttle for mainsheet winch. At the boat receiver you plug the boat rudder into Channel 1. You plus the mainsheet winch into channel 3.

In Spektrum, the default channel assignment sees Throttle on Channel 1 – so plug your mainsheet winch into Channel 1 of your receiver.

Spektrum allocates Ailerons to Channel 2 – so on the boat, plug your boat rudder to Channel 2.

Then you will want to check if the directions of travel of the winch (Throttle Channel 1) or boat rudder (aileron channel 3) need to be reversed. To my surprise, both my channels needed this.

There is a dedicated reversals menu screen inside “servo setup”

Now test your joystick travel directions for winch and rudder. If you need to reverse them, click your way through to doing this.

You should be able to tel in the photo above that I have reversed the THR and AIL channels.

Then everything works on the joysticks as you’d expect and you are ready to go.
